Are you confused? Struggling to know what is true any more?
You could be forgiven as Truth is under attack from the Father of Lies (Satan). Truth has shifted in meaning from what is ultimate fact to meaning that which is fact relative to your perspective. This doctrine of relativism is designed to confuse and destroy.
Children as young as 3 and 4 are taught to question who and what they are. They are taught that they can identify as whichever gender they wish – and there are many to choose from to make it make it even more confusing than which sex they identify as. Likewise, if they don’t wish to identify as human but prefer some other animal that is okay too. And this is just the tip of the grooming iceberg that today’s youth have to navigate. I won’t delve into the more perverted examples of children are being exposed to.
Lies are common place in society today. With the advent of computers we have been seeing images on billboards and in magazines that are “improved” humanity. Marketers have been selling us the lie that we are inferior for decades. Fortunately the snake oil that they are peddling can make us whole, or make us perfect like the fake images and ideals that they are presenting. Social media is a collection of people all presenting their “best” selves. If your life isn’t glamorous and perfect like everyone else then obviously there must be something wrong with you, right?
As we come into election season there are a plethora of politicians making great promises of the wealth and prosperity they will bring us all. No sooner are they elected than their promises are forgotten – even if they claim they can be a politician who doesn’t lie. The boasting of building ten thousand houses a year turns into two houses and a converted motel. But don’t worry, they will fix it by rewriting history and claiming they never said that, no matter how many recordings there are of them saying exactly it.
Truth, you see, is relative. We can change the meaning of words to obscure the truth, or we can rewrite the classic books of literature to remove problematic words and ideas. Just like we can bring in legislation that prohibits hate speech (or more accurately, speech we hate). For your own good of course.
Everything is relative, and that’s the only absolute.”
Auguste Comte
Of course, if we were to ask Auguste if he was absolutely sure, that would provide him a conundrum that he could not answer consistent with his supposed world view. Should he answer negatively, then obviously his statement is little more than an absurdity. However, if he was to answer affirmatively, then he just proves the absurdity of the statement because his truth can only be relatively true according to his world view.

So why the universal attack on Truth?
Because Truth is the anchor of our hope. And because Satan doesn’t want people to believe that there is a source of ultimate Truth. Despite what Auguste preached, Truth is absolute and everything relative is absolutely a lie. And despite what the ex Prime Minister of New Zealand claimed, “we” are not the one source of truth. Only God can wear that title and their deliberate assuming the title of God should have sent ripples of outrage through the Christian community. Sadly, of those Christians who have actually read the word of God most are trying to be of the world rather than in the world (Christianeese for saying that they are too busy pleasing man to please God, see John 17:14-16).
Satan is trying to redefine what it means to be human and to have us doubting the very truth of who we are. This is because there is great power in understanding that you were created in the image of God (Genesis 1:27), He knit us together in the womb (Psalm 139:13), or as the apostle Paul reminds us:
The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God’s children. Now if we are children, then we are heirs—heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ, if indeed we share in his sufferings in order that we may also share in his glory.
Romans 8:16-17 (New International Version)
Understanding that your worth is derived not from what you think or feel, but from God himself, means that neither you, nor anyone else can devalue you. You are intrinsically of great worth. So much so, that Jesus the Son of God would die to redeem you (save you from hell itself). Nothing you can do or say changes the reality of this truth. Is there any wonder that Satan has been trying sow seeds of doubt about our birthright since the Garden of Eden with Adam and Eve? You are an heir of God, he is not.
All the lies in the world are to deceive you of that birthright. All the destruction is to make you doubt that ultimate Truth.
If you are ever in doubt as to scale of the lies in the world, just remember that the person behind them (Satan) has been around since the creation of the world. And he will be here until the day of its final judgment. The lies are bigger than any one politician or group of rich megalomaniacs. The lies are thousands of years old and Satan weaves them through history to achieve his goal of destroying humanity.
Remember, when you are overwhelmed or lost in the sea of lies, you are a child of the creator of the Universe. If you trust in his Truth he will guide and deliver you. Our Hope is anchored in Truth
Because God wanted to make the unchanging nature of his purpose very clear to the heirs of what was promised, he confirmed it with an oath.
Hebrews 6:17-19a NIV
God did this so that, by two unchangeable things in which it is impossible for God to lie, we who have fled to take hold of the hope set before us may be greatly encouraged.
We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure.
